Heading out on a family cruise is all about making unforgettable memories. But for parents, keeping track of little ones on a massive, bustling ship can be a source of worry. Royal Caribbean is addressing this concern head-on with an innovative new feature on its latest ship, the Star of the Seas. Get ready to enjoy your vacation with peace of mind, thanks to the new “Find My Kid” feature.
What is ‘Find My Kid’?
The “Find My Kid” feature is integrated into the Royal Caribbean app and is exclusively available on the Star of the Seas. It allows you to see the real-time location of your children (ages 3 to 12) on the ship’s deck maps, directly from your smartphone.
How It Works
To use this convenient new service, you’ll need to purchase an Adventure Ocean WOW Band for your child. These waterproof wristbands are a small investment at $14.99 each and can be purchased at the Adventure Ocean kids’ club once you’re on board. Once your child is wearing the band, you can enable the “Find My Kid” feature in the Royal Caribbean app, and you’ll be able to see their location while you’re connected to the ship’s Wi-Fi network.
The best part? You don’t need to buy an internet package to use this feature, as it works on the ship’s internal Wi-Fi. It’s important to note that the feature is only active while the ship is at sea and doesn’t work in port.
More Than Just a Tracker
The Adventure Ocean WOW Band isn’t just for location tracking. It’s designed to function just like a traditional SeaPass card, allowing your child to open your stateroom door and make pre-authorized onboard purchases. The band also has the child’s assigned muster station printed on it, adding another layer of safety in case of an emergency.
This new technology is a welcome addition for families looking to balance their child’s independence with parental peace of mind. While the “Find My Kid” feature is currently only on the Star of the Seas, it’s a game-changer that sets a new standard for family cruising.
